Why am I so Tired all the Time?

I hear this a lot with my clients and sometimes when this starts to happen to me I have to STOP and reevaluate what is going on in my life, to see how and if I am taking good care of myself and what I am doing with my time.

I think on the whole women have a harder time saying NO. I don’t have statistics on this but women seem to be born multitaskers. Men on the other hand seem to tackle one step, challenge or situation at a time (unless of course either gender becomes overwhelmed…then it is simply chaos and nothing gets done at all).

Here are a few tips on what you can do for self care and before I end this post I will share with you one secret that many people over look that is a big cause of fatigue.

Do you make a bee line for that couch when you come home or lack the energy or desire to do things that normally you would enjoy?

Fatigue…..that is the prognosis….so what is the remedy?

First lets define Fatigue: a lack of energy or motivation caused by many things such as ; lack of sleep, being sedentary, sleep disorders, grief, depression, stress, being overworked, poor diet, medical problems, medications and the list goes on……

So how do you WAKE UP and live a life of optimal wellness with ENERGY?

1. Clear the debt – the sleep debt: without enough sleep you will accumulate “sleep debt”. Too much of this debt and it is hard to catch up. Here are a few tips for a better night’s sleep:
• Sleep the same amount each night. This may vary from person to person but on average an adult needs 8 -8.5 hours every night.
• Routine: go to bed and wake up at the same times every night…yes, even on weekends.
• Temperature is important: make sure the room you sleep in is cool and dark.
• Avoid caffeine, nicotine and alcohol, especially later in the day.

2. Exercise: Regular exercise can increase your energy levels significantly. One study indicates that 20 minutes of low – intensity aerobic exercise 3 times a week increases energy levels by 20% and a decrease in fatigue by a whopping 65%. Exercise can also help you fall asleep for those of you who profess insomnia…are you getting enough exercise?

3. Diet: Oh there is that four letter word again….let’s say Nutrition instead: Food is the body’s fuel. Cheap “dead” food…..can put water in your gas tank and cause you to simply chug along all day. Putting in high quality, mainly organic balanced meals and snacks will start to have your body’s engine burn clean and fast. Include lots of veggies, lean proteins, healthy fats, carbs and whole grains (unless you are gluten intolerant of course – then skip the wheat and gluten products). DRINK plenty of clean water during the day….dehydration is one of the main causes of fatigue! Supplement with high quality vitamins.

4. This one is the secret and my favourite and so many haven’t a clue to this being a major factor in fatigue. What is it you may ask? It is RESISTANCE. What the heck do I mean by that? Well think about if you went to the gym and you cranked up any of the machine to the highest setting (resistance)…..? Chances are you couldn’t even make the machine push, slide or pedal and it would exhaust you trying and then you would give up. Well the subconscious mind has this memory stored in you somewhere and when you come up against any resistance in your life; say a project you don’t want to do…the time of day you must start work, cutting the grass or doing the dishes….. All of a sudden you are TIRED. No you are not …but your body on a subconscious level with disguise this resistance in the form of fatigue so you can say you cannot finish the project, cut the grass, get to work or do the dishes because you are TIRED….. So if you find that there are many things in your life you do not want to do AND you are tired all the time despite incorporating all the tips mentioned above to combat fatigue….then I suggest look at your life ….write down what you do not like to do…..and then either do it (or don’t) and get going and the fatigue will leave OR CHANGE your life. If you do not know how to do that…get some help because only you are responsible for your life, your health and your energy = your future and your abundance.

So now that you know the secret saboteur of fatigue you can combat it with your AWARENESS and your desire to have a better life. It is simply a choice….be accountable…Love your life.
